5 Alkaline Breakfast Foods To Add To Your Diet

Whether or not you strictly follow an alkaline diet plan, including “alkaline-forming foods”, into your daily meals may have a noticeable impact on your overall health and vitality. In particular, this article will discuss some of the best alkaline foods for breakfast.

Since many typical breakfast foods are high up on the acidity scale (like eggs, refined grains and dairy), it’s time to switch things up! By adding some highly-alkaline foods to your breakfast menu, you can switch up the ordinary and discover fresh new ingredients and flavors to experiment with… Let’s go!

Before we dive in, here’s a little background on the alkaline diet for those that don’t know exactly what it is or how it might work…

What’s the Alkaline Diet?

If you’ve never heard of the alkaline diet plan, it’s based on the premise that all foods fall somewhere on a scale from acidic to alkaline – and foods that are more alkaline (therefore less acid-forming in your body), can potentially reduce inflammation and greatly benefit your health.

Proponents of this diet plan their meals using lots of fresh, whole foods, mostly plant-based. This includes lots of fresh veggies, fruits, some legumes, and various other foods/drinks such as green tea, apple cider vinegar, and pink sea salt. In addition, there is even such a thing as “alkaline water”. Though this water can be found in nature when water crosses over rocks and picks up more minerals, raising the pH, it’s now a hot trend for companies to create alkaline water through processing.

In contrast, those following the diet try to limit their intake of acidic foods, which include many animal-based items such as meat, eggs, fish and dairy. In addition, processed and refined foods are generally considered acidic.

The goal for those on the alkaline diet is to eat meals consisting of 70 percent alkaline-forming foods and 30 percent acid-forming foods. So, what are the best alkaline foods for breakfast?! Let’s find out…

Top 5 Alkaline Foods for Breakfast

When reading the list of top 5 alkaline-forming breakfast foods, below, keep in mind that there are tons of great, highly-alkaline foods – these are just some that are particularly beneficial when planning your breakfast menu. But, keep in mind that you can always add in other alkaline foods when creating or searching for new recipes.

Here are 5 Amazing Options for Alkaline Breakfast Foods…

1. Kale

All leafy greens are high alkaline, but in particular, kale makes an amazing breakfast food to kickstart your health and your day. High in fiber, antioxidants, calcium, iron and vitamins C and K, kale is a tasty superfood that’s easy to squeeze into your meals.

Make a kale breakfast stir fry by adding kale into a pan with olive oil, along with garlic and onion, which are also high alkaline foods. Add in mushrooms and even a little tomato for extra nutrients. Even though tomato is a more acidic veggie, the goal is balance, and making sure most of your meal is alkaline when following this dietary pattern.

You can also top your stir fry with eggs or organic tofu. While eggs are acidic, organic tofu is a low-acid food that still provides good protein and health benefits, when consumed in moderation.

2. Broccoli

Next up is a food you wouldn’t typically think of as being a part of breakfast, yet it absolutely can be! Broccoli is high in many vitamins, potassium and folate, and tastes great steamed, roasted and even raw. It’s also a great alkaline food for breakfast.

For a unique recipe to power up your morning, try a simple broccoli quinoa breakfast bowl. To make it, steam up some broccoli, (you can also use cauliflower, which is another high alkaline veggie). Then add it to a bowl with cooked quinoa, (a high alkaline whole grain), and cooked chickpeas, another superpower alkaline food, and great source of plant-based protein.

Mix the ingredients up with some extra virgin olive oil, apple cider vinegar, pink sea salt, pepper and Dijon mustard and top with chopped fresh parsley for a super-tasty high-alkaline breakfast.

No time to make a breakfast bowl? Not a problem because this 310 Superfood Juice powder contains a ton of alkalizing greens including organic broccoli, kale, spinach and more.

3. Kiwi

Next, kiwi is another alkaline food for breakfast that is both naturally-sweet and incredibly nutritious. Packed with antioxidants and fiber, kiwi is also great for your digestive health.

Add kiwi into a fruit salad with other high alkaline fruits like apples, oranges, passion fruit, pomegranates and pineapple, or make a tasty, energizing green smoothie. This Triple Green Smoothie recipe features three high alkaline greens, (kiwi, spinach and green apple), and is also a hydrating treat.

4. Ginger

Next, you may be used to sprinkling dried ginger powder onto your meals without even knowing that ginger root (and all roots in general) are some of the best high alkaline foods. In particular, ginger makes a great alkaline food for breakfast.

Grate some fresh ginger to add to an alkaline breakfast ginger oatmeal bowl. Simply make some steel cut oatmeal, which utilizes the whole grain and is not refined like packaged oatmeal. Then, add in some pure maple syrup, which is a natural alkaline sweetener, and some coconut milk. Top with fresh grated ginger, a sprinkle of turmeric powder and fresh berries for an anti-inflammatory, totally alkaline breakfast.

5. Green Tea

Finally, green tea is one of the most alkalizing herbs out there, and a cup of it makes a great addition to an alkaline breakfast. Try a detoxifying herbal blend like 310 Tea, which also includes energizing herbs, along with a high alkaline fruit, pomegranate.
